Credit Crunch hits charities
The independent charity regulator said 38% of charities reported being hit by the economic downturn of the last year in some way.
Charity Commission chairman Dame Suzi Leather said charities were facing a great deal of uncertainty. "Even before events of the last few weeks, some charities were really being squeezed by higher costs and higher demands for vital services," she said.
"They will wonder how they are going to survive the current crisis while trying to continue meeting people's needs."
She also urged the public to carry on donating to charities during the current financial crisis. "They need our help more than ever," she said.

HELP! us to buy a mini-bus
The league is funded through sponsorships, donations and fundraising and at present we are in desperate need of a mini-bus to transport the young people to and from venues for competition and training. We are looking for any donations however big or small to help to continue to raise the £8,000 needed for the transport. Please use the Donate button on the right to help a very worthy cause.

At South London Special League we are always looking for
people with skills or
time on their hands to help us.
We need coaches, referees, artists, computer whiz-kids, fundraisers, first-aiders and crowd-controllers.
Perhaps you just want to offload kit, equipment or trophies. As long as they are in good condition, we are interested. We run most of our events midweek, during the day, although our Girls Club trains and has matches on Sundays.
So if you want to support the league tournaments in any way, or you think you have bright ideas for fundraising, please let us know. We are not a rich organisation, but we can pay expenses to make sure you are not out or pocket.
If you are really serious about helping, we can get you qualified in football coaching. In return you become addicted
to being part of this friendly, go-ahead, successful project.
